Mehbang Astronomers Society managed a Program on April 12th honoring the memory of Yuri Gagarin. The managers of the project- Niloufar Gamshadzayi and Atousa Shariati- and the executive staff were present in a field in Olympic Village in Zahedan City, Iran in order to manage “Water Rockets Launching Competition.” The contest was organized successfully with participation of 15 teams of university and high school students.
The spectators showed a great interest in the program. The winners were awarded at the end of competition and then the audience and participants were all directed to a 10 inch Dobsonian telescope to observe the beauties of the night sky. Some educational packages were also distributed in order to make them all familiar with Yuri Gagarin, the Moon, making water rockets, etc.

Acto Yuri's Night San Jose de Maipo

(download)

On April 16 after 20:00 local time start our homage to Yuri Gagarin on
the 50th anniversary of his trip into space, then opened in the main
hall of our Jase Roan Astronomical Observatory a permanent exhibition
space travel issues. The event official lounge was renamed "Hall
Yuri Gagarin." Our greatest satisfaction is to be counted during the
development of the event with the participation of representatives of
the Russian Embassy in Chile, the Mayor of the Municipality of San
José de Maipo, the Director of the Center for Aeronautical Research
and Development attached to the Air Force of Chile The President of
the Chilean Association of Astronomy and Astronautics Achay and a
representative of the Chilean Space Agency later shared a meal of
camaraderie and we could make astronomical observation equipment

Yuri's Night, Waukesha WI

We had a small party attended by eight 3 to 7 year olds, and their enthusiastic parents. It involved a space explorer checklist for participants to complete, including orbital simulator (run around a globe), photo op (either in a space suit or a rocket), tasting space food (freeze dried ice cream and food in tubes), and duct tape repair (where we told the kids their rock collector had broken and they had to make a new one from things from the recycling bin). There was also a small tent with a control panel (the space craft simulator) and some library books about pioneers in space travel. The navigation simulator was sidewalk chalk, and the kids either hop-scotched through the planets or flew a foam rocket.

Thanks so much for letting us join in this event. The guests, kids and parents, asked to do it again next year, too.

Yuri's Night Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur

Here are some pictures from the Yuri's Night in Kuala Lumpur. Quite a number of people showed up in spite of the heavy tropical rain that night and we had a great time together with Malaysian astronaut Dr Faiz. Dr Faiz, wearing a Gagarin T-shirt, came to share his passion for space exploration and showed us some movie clips from his previous training in Star City in Russia. He also  answered all the questions people had about space travel, from the quality of the food up there (food talks being one of Malaysians' hot topics) to the ways of following Islamic rules among the stars. We were also visited by some Malaysian cos-players among which Jedi Warrior Allen and his light-saber and Ezli from the Enterprise got most of the attention. Soon after, DJ French Chris in his storm trooper suit got the party started with some progressive house from outer space, followed by some pure orbital trance with 2 DJs from the Epic Tribe. We all came back to earth at around 2am, the eyes full of laser beams and shooting stars. It was awesome!
